Six days before Robin and Andrea’s wedding Hurricane Matthew struck the Georgia coast this was the most powerful storm of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season, and made its fourth and final landfall near McClellanville, South Carolina as a category 1 hurricane late in the morning of October 8th.  Although gusts above hurricane force were reported along the Carolina coast, Matthew will be remembered for its extreme rainfall and deadly flooding. According to the National Hurricane Center, Matthew was directly responsible for 25 deaths in North Carolina and four in South Carolina, all but one due to flooding.

As Hurricane Matthew pounds Cumberland Island and the Georgia coast Robin, Andrea and Banjo enjoy a paddle on Lake Oglethorpe. They spent I lot of their time here working on preparations for their wedding.

Cumberland Island, the original venue for the wedding, sustained substantial damage and was closed. The venue was move to a newly restored dock of a friend and co-worker of Andrea’s.
